The Western Carolina men’s basketball team created an instant classic when it took heavily favored Davidson down to the wire before losing in double-overtime in the finals of last year’s Southern Conference Tournament in Asheville. With the team’s run in last year’s tournament and the event returning to Asheville in March, Catamount fans eagerly await the 2012-13 season.
From pregame gatherings at a popular downtown restaurant and brew pub through the crowd-pleasing halftime performances of WCU’s Purple Thunder drumline and dance team, Catamount fans painted the city purple for the duration of the tournament. The Catamount athletics department is making plans to recapture the magic of 2012, as the 2013 SoCon men’s and women’s basketball championships tip off in Asheville on March 8-11.
All men’s games will be played at the 6,500-seat US Cellular Center. The first two days of the women’s tournament will be played at UNC Asheville’s Kimmel Arena, with the semifinals and final being played in conjunction with the men’s tournament at the US Cellular Center.
General admission tickets are available now through the WCU athletics ticket office. All-session passes are on sale for $90 each, for admission to every men’s and women’s session during the tournament. Fans who purchase the first 50 all-session passes also will receive wristbands allowing them sit behind the team bench for all Catamount men’s games. Single session tickets also are available for $18.
